Agent Memory

You might say

Will the Agent remember what I told it after I start a new conversation?

A mechanism for an Agent to save and retrieve selected information in later interactions; its scope depends on the product and settingsWhile coding, you want the Agent to avoid automatically editing shared components. The same conversation may retain chat history; a new one sees the preference only if project rules are read or a supported memory is saved and retrieved. Check what the new conversation actually loaded in the target project.

Agent Memory

Where does a shared-component rule come from in a new conversation?

Project A · original conversation

Teaching example: the product resumed the same conversation and provided earlier messages again; retention depends on its session mechanism.

The three sources have different scopes

Conversation history: Belongs to a particular conversation. The system may provide it when that conversation resumes; retention depends on the session mechanism.

Project rules: Live in project files or settings. The Agent must actually read them in the target project for them to enter the current context.

Cross-session memory: A product may save and retrieve selected information in later interactions; there is no universal guarantee about what is saved or recalled.

You can say this to an AI Agent

This new conversation must also follow “do not automatically edit shared components.” First tell me which project rules or memories you actually loaded for this turn. If the requirement is missing, add it to this project's rules or the current request before changing code.

Project rules in repository A say “do not automatically edit shared components.” You start a new conversation in repository B. How can you confirm the rule will apply?

A. Check the rules or memory loaded in this conversation; if missing, configure it for B or state it here, then verifyB. Assume repository A's project rules also apply to B because it is the same AI productC. Assume the Agent remembers the rule because it handled a similar task before
