Timeout
I clicked save and it spins forever, then says the request timed out. Is it the network or the server?
In this example the request reached the service; the page reports a timeout first, while the service may continue and write later.
This timeline assumes the request reached the service; other timeouts may happen during connection or sending. Identify the timed-out stage before choosing a limit.
The waiting side gives up: When a wait phase exceeds its limit, the page or tool stops waiting and reports a timeout. If the request reached the service, work may continue there; a connection or send timeout can happen before the service receives the request.
A timeout is not an error verdict: A slow response, a busy server, or large data can all exceed the limit. The failure signal only says no result arrived; the cause still needs timing and logs.
Different from rate limiting: Rate limiting rejects too many requests per period and returns 429 quickly. A timeout means waiting a long time with no response. They need different handling.
You can say this to an AI Agent
The save API sometimes takes over 10 seconds, the page reports a timeout, but the data is actually written. Find which step is slow, set a reasonable wait limit and retry rule for this request, and prevent duplicate submissions while it is still processing.
