Provider
What do Provider and Model mean in this configuration, and where will my request actually go?
provider = "openrouter"model = "deepseek-v4-flash"base_url = "https://openrouter.ai/api/v1"The tool reads who to call and which model to use.
/chat/completionshttps://openrouter.ai/api/v1model: deepseek-v4-flashThe request reaches OpenRouter, not the model name.
$ OpenRouter model: deepseek-v4-flash answer: button code returned
The Provider returns the model result to the tool.
Provider is the service platform in the request path; Model is the specific capability selected in that request.
Use a chef to understand a Provider: Imagine you are looking for a chef to cook a dish: the Model is the chef who actually cooks, the Provider is the restaurant or platform that provides the chef and service, the API is the counter where you place an order, the API Key is the membership card that proves you are allowed to order, and the Base URL is the restaurant's address. So, the Provider is who you use to access an AI model.
What do Provider and Model mean in a configuration?: provider: openai with model: gpt-5 means using gpt-5 through OpenAI. provider: deepseek with model: deepseek-chat means using deepseek-chat through DeepSeek. In short: the Provider is who supplies the service, and the Model is which model you select. If the configured Provider is openai-compatible, it usually means that the service platform accepts a request format similar to OpenAI. It does not prove that the request goes to OpenAI; check the Base URL, key issuer, and billing party to identify the actual service platform.
You can say this to an AI Agent
Check whether the configured Provider, Model, Base URL, and API key source agree. First report where the request goes, who issued the credential, and who bills it; do not read or print the real API key or change the configuration.
